Our Mission

The mission of Deaf Services is to promote awareness of the needs and concerns of the Deaf Community, and to generate services, information and programs to address those needs and concerns.

Deaf Services

The Township provides a Deaf Services Coordinator, fluent in American Sign Language, who is able to assist the Deaf Community with their various needs. Sarita Phadke, Deaf Services Coordinator is available to assist clients with problem-solving, information, and support. She is also available to help clients when working with other departments within the Township. Information and Referrals

Deaf Services assists residents of Schaumburg Township with a variety of services and programs and maintains an extensive list of resources and can provide information and referrals on a variety of issues. Assistance can be provided in the form of advocacy and referrals to organizations who can help you understand your legal rights in various situations.

Benefits Counseling

Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP)

Staff are trained by the Illinois Department on Aging to provide free, unbiased counseling on Medicare and insurance benefits. Staff can also meet with residents to screen for available benefits and assist with completing benefit applications such as Benefit Access Program, Medicaid, SNAP and more!

Programming

Deaf Services hosts a monthly Deaf Social/Support Group on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Each month the group plays a variety of games, enjoys socializing, and participates in educational activities. Community Education

Deaf Services has two options for you to get news impacting the Deaf Community:

  • The Disability eNewsletter is sent out the 1st and 15th of every month and includes information pertinent to Deaf Services. Sign up at the bottom of this page.
