Township Support Groups

The Township hosts several support groups on a monthly basis. Check out the available groups below.

 

Bridges to Memory

  • 3rd Wednesday of the month at 2pm.
  • Facilitated by Nurse Janet.
  • Group provides a variety of activities and conversation for people with Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia or mild cognitive impairment and their caregivers.
  • All ability levels are welcome, but please note that we do not have a CNA on staff. Assistance with toileting, bathing, feeding, or medication will not be provided. Caregivers are required to stay during the session.
  • There is no fee to attend.
  • Registration is required for first-time attendees. Please call 847-285-4551 to register.

Caregiver Support Group

  • 2nd Monday of the month at 11am.
  • Facilitated by Becky Cordes, Director of Senior and Disability Services.
  • Group is offered in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association and provides an opportunity for caregivers to talk about their experiences and provide support to each other.
  • There is no fee to attend.
  • Registration is not required. Please call 847-285-4541 and ask for Becky if you have any questions.

Deaf Social/Support Group

  • 3rd Wednesday of the month at 10:30am
  • The group is facilitated by our Deaf Services Coordinator in ASL. Monthly sessions are held to offer socialization, fellowship and general information on a variety of topics
  • There is no fee to attend.

Diabetes Support Group

  • 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 10:30am.
  • Facilitated by Nurse Janet.
  • Open to anyone with a diabetes or pre-diabetes diagnosis. The support group discusses diabetes and how to manage it.
  • There is no fee to attend.
  • Please call 847-285-4551 to register.

Fibromyalgia Support Group

  • 4th Tuesday of the month at 7pm.
  • The support group is peer-led and a great resource for those who are dealing with fibromyalgia.
  • Email nwfibro@yahoo.com for more information or to be added to the email list.
  • There is no fee to attend.

The Northwest Suburban Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group

  • 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7 PM.
  • Email jkottmeier@nch.org or call 847-285-4551 for more information.
  • Northwest Community Healthcare, AMITA Health at St. Alexius Medical Center and AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center collaborate to provide bereavement support to those who have lost their child during or after pregnancy.
  • There is no fee to attend.
