Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

This federally funded program is designed to assist low-income eligible households with heating and cooling bills. The program has household income eligibility requirements at a maximum of 200% FPL. The program year begins October 1, 2024, and runs until August 15, 2025, or until funds are exhausted.

To help the most vulnerable populations within communities first, there will be only one (1) priority period during which only select households will be eligible to apply before the program is offered to all Cook County residents.

Beginning October 1st, households with at least one (1) member aged 60 or older, person(s) with a government certified disability, families with children 5 & under, households disconnected from one or both utilities or in danger of being disconnected can apply for LIHEAP benefits.

Beginning November 1, all other Cook County households, including those in Priority Group 1, may apply for benefits.
