Department: Assessor’s Office Reports to: Chief Deputy Assessor Hourly pay rate estimate: $23.00-$26.00 experience-based Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt Date: May 2025
The Deputy Assessor will be responsible for entering property data, including making clerical corrections, processing homeowner exemptions, resident freeze exemptions, senior exemptions, and changes in ownership or addresses, among others as required. They will respond to and route calls to the appropriate office or department director. Additionally, the Deputy Assessor will communicate with the public to provide information, explain procedures, and address a wide range of questions related to various tax scenarios. This position requires a high level of professionalism, strong managerial and leadership skills, as well as solid administrative capabilities. The ability to effectively communicate complicated assessment details to a diverse population is essential, along with the capability to work courteously and understandingly with the rest of the team.
Hours: 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM. Monday through Friday, hours will fluctuate based on demand.
Essential Functions
• Perform data entry of real property information, including clerical corrections, homeowner exemptions, senior freeze exemptions, senior exemptions, etc., ownership and address changes, and other changes as required. • Answer the telephone and route calls to the appropriate office or individual in the Township. • Perform basic data analyses, queries, and spreadsheets. • Excellent understanding of all aspects of the Assessor’s office, and programs that it administers to serve the public and other county departments. • Assist the public with the completion of required forms, and other property information at the public’s request. During the time of appeals, must be available to work extended hours or weekends. • Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as designated yearly. • Review deeds and other legal documents concerning property ownership within the county with accuracy. • Requires the ability to use Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. • Assist other departments and perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications
• Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, in accounting or business • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including a variety of different programs like Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. • Knowledge and understanding of local community resources and programs • Demonstrate leadership abilities, including initiative, ability to work independently, and ability to effectively handle emergencies • Capability to effectively manage and complete projects simultaneously, under tight time constraints • Organizational skills with the ability to establish and maintain a professional level of competence with members of the public, media, not-for-profits, community groups, and other government agencies • Possess and utilize tact, diplomacy, and discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential matters • Ability to lift 23-30 pounds, involving bending and overhead lifting
Special Requirements/ License/Certification
• To obtain the Certified Illinois Assessing Officer (C.I.A.O) with the Illinois Property Assessment annual certification within a year of hire. • Notary Public and Deputy Registrar certification, required within two months of hire.
